7. Halosar Trap (Blackmar-Diemer Queen Ambush)
In the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, Black often greedily grabs every available pawn. In the Halosar Trap, Black plays ...Bg4 and ...Nxd4, but White's furious development creates a devastating discovered check or queen entrapment that shatters Black's defense.

Move by move
- 1.d4 – The classical opening strike 1.d4! You seize the center, open diagonal lines for the c1-bishop, and initiate a solid, highly dynamic contest.
- 1...d5 – Black answers symmetrically: the d5 pawn prevents e4 and contests the center. White can now hit it from the side with the c-pawn.
- 2.e4 – The Blackmar-Diemer shocker: 2.e4! White immediately transforms a quiet Queen's Pawn Game into an incendiary, open gambit battlefield.
- 2...dxe4 – Black accepts the central pawn with 2...dxe4: a principled choice opening the position but conceding White rapid development tempos.
- 3.Nc3 – White develops the knight to c3: directly pressuring the e4-pawn and preparing the energetic follow-up thrust with f2-f3.
- 3...Nf6 – Black defends the e4-pawn with 3...Nf6: promptly developing their most active minor piece toward the critical center of the board.
- 4.f3 – The beating heart of the Diemer: 4.f3! White offers a second pawn to blow open the f-file and accelerate an aggressive assault against the king.
- 4...exf3 – Black captures on f3 pocketing the material, but blowing wide open the half-open f-file for White's incoming rook and queen battery.
- 5.Qxf3 – The Halosar setup with 5.Qxf3: White's Queen recaptures actively, aiming at the f7 square and preparing long queenside castling.
- 5...Qxd4 – Black falls for excessive greed with 5...Qxd4?! Snatching another central pawn while exposing the Queen to immediate tempo attacks.
- 6.Be3 – Developing tempo move 6.Be3: White develops the dark-squared bishop, attacks the Black queen, and prepares queenside castling.
- 6...Qb4 – Black's Queen slides to 6...Qb4: clinging to threats against b2 while critically falling behind in basic development and king safety.
- 7.O-O-O – Aggressive queenside castling with 7.O-O-O: placing the rook on the open d-file with instant x-ray pressure on Black's queen.
- 7...Bg4 – Black pins White's queen with 7...Bg4: expecting to win the exchange on d1 while completely ignoring the red alert on their King.
- 8.Nb5 – Halosar lightning strike: 8.Nb5!! White ignores the attacked Queen and threatens an unstoppable checkmate with Nc7# on the King.
